Arguably one of the most iconic & recognisable watches from the Rolex lineup, the Rolex Datejust has some interesting facts hidden up its sleeves.

Today, we hope to shed some light on what these are, hopefully providing you with added information to get you a little more interested in this marvel of a watch & even spur you on to purchase one for yourself!

 1. The Datejust is Rolex’s best-selling watch model

When thinking about a Rolex, it is easy to picture a Submariner or a Daytona in your mind. Interestingly enough, it turns out that the Datejust is the watch which generates the highest amount of sales for Rolex.

This is due to the enormous number of variations that the Datejust is available in. No matter the size or metal, there is more than likely a Datejust that suits your needs.

 2. The Datejust was a revolutionary watch when it was first released

A first of its kind, the Rolex Datejust was the first automatic watch in the world to feature a date window that automatically changed dates at midnight.

This is just one of many examples of how Rolex as a company innovated in the watchmaking world & provided the backbone of how other watches should function.

3. The Datejust was the first model to feature an iconic element of Rolex watches

Can you guess what that is...?

If you managed to guess “Cyclops”, you’re right!

What is a “Cyclops” you might ask? Well, it’s the magnification system over the date window that almost all Rolex watches with a date function are equipped with that magnifies the date by 2.5 times!

 4. The Datejust was released to commemorate a milestone in Rolex’s history

Specifically, Rolex’s 40th anniversary in 1945. Hence, the Datejust was fitted with Rolex’s new (at the time) Jubilee bracelet, named after the jubilee occasion.

More than 75 years later, the Datejust is still in production and witnessing new milestones that Rolex sets out to accomplish, truly a testament of what a great watch it is!

 5. The Datejust was first made in solid gold

Solid 18k yellow gold in fact! Can you imagine just how heavy that would have been?

Presently, the Rolex Datejust is no longer manufactured in solid gold anymore, with only stainless steel and two-tone versions available.

Final Thoughts

The Rolex Datejust is a classic & beautiful watch which is available in a wide range of variations, making it one of the most popular models the manufacturer has to offer.
